Their discographic birth came with Figli di Annibale (Hannibal’s children), a soundtrack for the movie
carrying the same title, directed by Davide Ferrario: it was a success, both public and critics praised it,
which led to the release of a mini cd MMACARIE attached to a book (published by an independent-alternative
label) focusing on the phenomenon of tarantismo and the new wave of ethnic music in Italy.
Their second work, RONDE NOE- microchips sulla terra del rimorso, can instead be considered a real cultural
journey taking off from Salento and ending up in the Middle East passing through Albania. Thanks to rhythms and
sonorities of the new World Beat, it suggests electronic experimental covering pizzica, traditional lyrics and
a ‘Salento version’ of Ragga.
Their third work TARANTULAE (which keeps the same phonetics in Latin, English and in the Salento dialect)
is not only a very sophisticated and original cd, but it also tracks down a new, and yet universa, linguistic
and aesthetic code, and, reaching out to those characteristics which are of modernity, it brings the popular
reality of the south to be appreciated all over the world as one of the most ancient and charming ethnic
cultures of our ‘Global Village’.
JENTU, released by V2 Records, suggests a sophisticated glimpse through the Mediterranean civilisation opening
to the Maghreb, the Balkans, Syria.
Musically multifaceted and original, JENTU showcases Balkanic brass, Salento drums, tarabuches, sitar, in a
powerful dialogue with contemporaneity for a common horizon of knowledge and exchange.
ST. ROCCO’S RAVE is the latest work by NIDI D’ARAC released by V2 Records in September 2005.
Nidi d’Arac continue exploring the multiples connections between the new and the ancient inspired by
technological developments and a growing club culture.
By forging a more than ever stronger dialogue between traditional folk music and digital sounds, ever
guided by their deep respect for tradition, Nidi d’Arac have reshaped the traditional sounds of pizzica
by employing dub's ability to distort and colour sound while retaining its ancient soulful beauty.
